PTSD and DO YOU HAVE IT?

                             POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Are you having difficulty recovering from a traumatic event or events that have occurred to you or around you?

Are you having Triggers and Flashbacks? These can occur while being in the midst of someone else’s abuse, watching movies or tv shows that have abuse in them, something said by someone or something someone does.

Nightmares and bad dreams? These may or may not have your abuser in them. Most will be of you trying to run away or get away from someone trying to hurt you along with fighting off an intruder.

Triggers cause a heightened reaction to things like loud sounds, someone screaming or someone touching you unexpectedly.

Depression from PTSD can cause you to not be able to get out of bed, take frequent naps, have insomnia, drinking, eating or smoking excessively.

Anxiety with PTSD can become more out of control and excessive.

When I was making my ‘list’ of what I can and can’t handle from people during and after my divorce, there were way more ‘cons’ than there were ‘pros’.

People I would meet that were loud and boisterous, unpredictable and narcissistic made it onto the ‘cons’ list.

It wasn’t until after 14years from my divorce when I had finally gotten tested and was told I had PTSD.

At that time I was still having terrible nightmares and triggers quite often.

It has now been quite a few years since that diagnosis and I am finally getting better, I still have an occasional nightmare and bad dreams, but they have started occurring less frequently.

The triggers and flashbacks do not cause as heightened of a reaction, and my depression is better controlled.

It takes time, as many things do. Just remember you will get better, if you stay away from an abuser.
